THE MAN CAUSE
Through the years of career, family relationships and mounting responsibilities, we can find ourselves trudging a path we didn’t necessarily choose; isolated from our mates, lethargic and disorientated; in a fog of white noise.
What used to be the greater aspects of our individuality and character, have become deemed relatively unimportant and distant fond memories of a time when life surged through our veins;
plugged into the enchantment of possibility
We can sometimes wake up and find ourselves fat, sore, beige and lost; a barren rock in a desert of mortgage and responsibility to someone else’s dream; scratching around for self-esteem and chewing on the cud of disappointment
An emotional tumor accelerating growth as we slide; angry; resentful; depressed; defeated; abandoned
Serving life on the treadmill. Betrayed!! by ourselves
We often settle early and get old early. And then …
Some of us go mad and tear it all down; hurting everyone around us.
Some of us continue to stew or even find serenity in our captivity.
Some of us find ourselves left behind; disorientated and holding a smoking gun.
Some of us are found lying next to the smoking gun.
What happened?
Years of well-intended mistakes led us here; of misguided compromise.
Tragically, we didn’t know any better.
But why didn’t we know any better?
Why aren’t we there for each other?
Why do we abandon ourselves?
Compromise killed the relationship; drowned by its righteous guilt
It doesn’t have to be like this.
We haven’t gotten old. Life’s still enchanted and full of possibilities
